Active Initiative
Clean Water Access for Kousseri Schools
drilling 5 deep-water boreholes and installing sanitary blocks in three primary schools to combat cholera and keep girls in school.
The Challenge
Before this project, students at Kousseri Primary School had to walk 2km to fetch water from an unsafe river. This
led to high rates of waterborne diseases and absenteeism, particularly among young girls.
Our Solution
United for Healthy Lifespring drilled 5 solar-powered boreholes directly on school grounds. In
addition, we constructed gender-segregated latrines with handwashing stations.
Impact
« Since the water came to the school, our classrooms are full. The children are healthier and spend their time
learning, not walking to the river. »
— Headmaster Moussa
Result: 1,200 students now have daily access to clean, safe drinking water.
